Pensacola Habitat for Humanity is the proud recipient of a grant from the Republic Services Charitable Foundation’s National Neighborhood Promise program. Through National Neighborhood Promise, Republic Services will award funds, donate products and services, and lend their employees as volunteers for projects designed to build stronger communities.  

The $130,000 grant will be used to fund a variety of impactful Neighborhood Revitalization projects in the Westside Garden District neighborhood of Pensacola. One such project will be the completion of restoration of the Ella L. Jordan Home.

Originally built in the 1890’s, the Ella Jordan Home was an important social and educational hub for the African-American community and the home of Pensacola’s Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs. The Club and the Home provided a way for African-American women in segregated Pensacola to identify and meet the needs of their community. After Hurricane Ivan took its toll on the Home, the Mother Wit Institute began the long journey of restoring the home to its former glory.

Pensacola Habitat is hosting a check presentation on May 18, 2019, at the Ella L. Jordan Home, with speakers including AJ Rodgers from Republic Services and Georgia Blackmon of the Mother Wit Institute. National Neighborhood Promise Day, a day of service for Republic Services employees and a Pensacola Habitat Rock the Block project, will take place in the Westside Garden District on May 31, from 8AM to 2PM, and will be led by Pensacola Habitat’s Neighborhood Revitalization team.
