LOCAL FAITH COMMUNITY COMES TOGETHER FOR PENSACOLA HABITAT FOR HUMANITY’S 5th ANNUAL FAITH BUILD EVENT!

Pensacola, Fla. - Pensacola Habitat for Humanity kicked off its annual week-long Faith Build event on Friday, May 7th, bringing together dozens of volunteers from 15 local churches and faith-based organizations to help build the home of this year’s Faith Build Home Buyer, Joann Mathis.

“I thank God for my prayers and my luck and that I’m actually going to be a homeowner,” said Mathis, a mother of three and grandmother of 25. She has been a CNA in Pensacola most of her life, and was recently notified of being chosen to be this year’s Faith Build Home Buyer. “I’ll be very grateful when I can move into my home,” Mathis continued, “I’ll be dancing in the ceiling!”

Through Pensacola Habitat Faith Build, community members of different faiths join forces to help construct an affordable home for a local family. The Pensacola Habitat Faith Build Celebration Picnic kicked off the event on Friday, and volunteers will continue to work on framing the home throughout the week. Pensacola Habitat is asking community members for donations to fulfill their goal of raising $25,000 by Saturday, May 15th. To date, they have raised nearly $15,000 for Faith Build, helping Pensacola Habitat continue its mission of putting God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope. “I am so pleased with the turnout this year, having so many faiths represented. I look forward to continuing to engage with our faith community as we work to carry out our mission of building homes, communities, and hope in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties,” said Emma Field, the current AmeriCorps Volunteer Coordinator in charge of leading this year’s Faith Build.

This year, a wide range of faiths are represented, including teams from the Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is, New Beginnings Anointed Christian Center, Cokesbury United Methodist Church, Temple Beth-El, Olive Baptist Single Adult Ministry, and the UWF Muslim Student Association. In addition, there are individual volunteers from First United Methodist Church of Milton, First City Church, Hillcrest Church, Liberty Church, Pine Forest United Methodist Church, Saint Christopher’s Episcopal Church, Saint Paul’s Catholic Church, Englewood Baptist Church, Greater Mount Pleasant AME Church, and Howard Memorial Tabernacle.
