Board & Committee Volunteering

Program Committee Volunteering

Program committees (referenced in the bylaws as “non-board committees”) are designed to provide support and direction for Pensacola Habitat’s operations functions.  While program committees may include individuals who are not current members of the Board of Directors, the chair of these committees must be either a current or past board member or must be approved by the current board chair.

Resource Development Committee:  This committee provides support primarily for the special events and fundraising arms of the Resource Development department by assisting with planning and executing events throughout the year, including our annual Pensacola Habitat Food Truck Festival, Women Build, Faith Build, and the Annual Gala.  These committee members also assist with communications with our stakeholders, including volunteers and donors as part of their involvement.

Community Development Committee:  This committee provides support for the Community Development program by providing input and support regarding services offered to homeowners in need of home repairs and the related policies and processes.  The committee helps with planning and implementing projects for critical home repair, weatherization improvements, ramps, aging in place modifications, and neighborhood cleanup and beautification projects.  These committee members help us explore and better understand the needs in our community, connect us with different stakeholders, and discuss meaningful ways to address issues impacting members of our community.

ReStore Committee:  This committee provides support for general operations at our ReStore, which accepts donated goods and resells new and gently used products to raise funds to help the organization build affordable homes in our community.  The ReStore Committee reviews the store’s financial reports, provides feedback on marketing efforts to raise awareness about the store, and provides suggestions on ways to improve the ReStore’s efficiency, profitability, and visibility in the community.

Board Committee Volunteering

In accordance with the bylaws, all Pensacola Habitat for Humanity board committees act with the authority of the full Board of Directors, with some specific exceptions and decisions requiring ratification (or nullification) by the full Board.  All board committees are chaired by a current board member.  All members of the Executive and Governance Committees must be members of the Board, and the majority of the members on the Finance and Land Committees must be current or former Board members for Pensacola Habitat.

Executive Committee:  Chaired by the current board chairperson and composed of the board officers and limited at-large representation, this committee focuses primarily on current and short-term operational strategy.  Current business before other committees is frequently reviewed, and recommendations for action are passed to the full board agenda most months.

Finance Committee:  Chaired by the board treasurer in accordance with the bylaws, this committee has primary responsibility for development and oversight of the annual operating budget. The committee meets to examine in detail the affiliate financial reports, debt schedules, and balance sheets for the affiliate and the ReStore.

Land Committee:  Chaired by a current member of the board, this committee discusses potential land acquisition transactions and property sales for the affiliate and Community Land Trust, as well as occasional asset management topics.  This committee also approves project costs for new construction budgets and purchase pricing for land acquisition over a specified threshold.

Governance Committee:  Chaired by a current member of the board (typically the board chair), the membership of this committee mirrors that of the Executive Committee and is responsible for the periodic review of the organization’s bylaws as well as review or development of operational policies as needed. The Governance Committee is also responsible for identifying and recruiting prospective directors and officers of the Board and makes recommendations for chairpersons for board and program committees when appropriate.
