Pensacola Habitat for Humanity and NeighborWorks build a home together during NeighborWorks Week

Pensacola— On June 9, Pensacola Habitat for Humanity staff and community volunteers will come together with members of NeighborWorks to build a home ending weeklong celebration of neighborhood improvement activities nationally recognized as NeighborWorks Week.

During NeighborWorks Week, June 3-10, Pensacola Habitat and other NeighborWorks network organizations across the country celebrate the achievements of communities and how, together with NeighborWorks, they are empowering communities for success, changing and enhancing lives.

“We are thrilled to have our NeighborWorks partners join us along with our community volunteers on a home build this week during national celebrations” said Sam Young, CEO of Pensacola Habitat for Humanity. “It truly takes a community to build our homes, and it goes far beyond lifting walls and hammering nails. The help and partnership and all that NeighborWorks does to empower lives and communities locally and across the nation not only this week, but year-round is truly appreciated.”

“The support our affiliate receives from NeighborWorks helps members of our community realize their dream of homeownership where so many are making impossible choices such as food and medications due to high-cost and increasing rent payments” adds Betsy McDonald, Director of Programs. “In 2022 alone, NeighborWorks provided over $456,000 in grants to help Pensacola Habitat build homes, communities and hope.”

This past fiscal year, Pensacola Habitat’s Home Buyer Program helped 50 individuals and families move into their new homes and helped 35 existing homeowners stay in their homes by performing critical home repairs through its Community Development Program. Pensacola Habitat has greatly expanded HUD Housing Counseling Services in recent years to continue helping others in the community with their own homeownership journeys.

Pensacola Habitat for Humanity is part of the national NeighborWorks network, an affiliation of nearly 250 nonprofit organizations located in every state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Throughout the year, NeighborWorks network organizations empower people to take steps to reach their goals, such as make their community safer, find and maintain secure housing, and ensure financial stability, which leads to thriving, healthier communities. In fiscal year 2022, the NeighborWorks network provided 415,777 housing and counseling services; created 18,775 new homeowners; and owned and/or managed 204,916 rental homes.
