Pensacola Habitat for Humanity Receives $10K Grant for Veteran Repair Project

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Pensacola Habitat for Humanity’s Community Development Program received a boost to its efforts to make critical home repairs possible for veterans, thanks to a $10,000 grant awarded by local philanthropic organization Gulf Breeze Will Do.

This substantial grant award will help fund the Gulf Breeze Heroes project, a heartfelt initiative serving disabled veteran homeowners in Gulf Breeze to ensure their homes receive the repairs necessary to remain safe, comfortable and accessible. Fifteen percent of Santa Rosa County residents identify as veterans, according to the United States Census Bureau, and this project will ensure that our nation’s heroes receive the assistance they need.

“We are so thankful to the empowered and selfless women of Gulf Breeze Will Do for their generous support of our efforts to ensure that those who served our country can be served in turn with the critical repairs they need to live safely,” said Dakota Grilli, Pensacola Habitat for Humanity’s Community Development Manager. “These initiatives rely heavily on support from organizations like them to succeed, and we wouldn’t be able to make this transformative impact without their help.”

Gulf Breeze Will Do is a women’s philanthropy group that funds nonprofits and initiatives serving the Gulf Breeze, FL area, selecting several projects to help fund each year. Pensacola Habitat for Humanity’s proposal received the highest possible financial amount that can be awarded by the grant.

The first veteran homeowner to be served as part of the initiative is a 48-year-old single father of three children, whose left leg was amputated above the knee due to an injury sustained during his service in the Air Force. He uses a combination of a prosthetic leg and a wheelchair, but damage to his flooring has made it unsafe for him to move around his own home. This project will replace the flooring and make his home safer and more accessible for him and his children.
