Pensacola Habitat for Humanity Serves Veteran Firefighter with Critical Home Repairs
PENSACOLA, Fla. – Pensacola Habitat for Humanity’s Community Development Program recently completed critical home repairs for Christopher, a disabled Veteran firefighter and single father of three who will now be able to safely move around his home.
Christopher served four years as an Air Force firefighter before being medically discharged due to injuries sustained in the line of duty. He has been raising his children – ages 22, 12 and 8 – in the home he purchased in 2021. However, the flooring began to crack, making it difficult and unsafe for him to move around his once-new home, whether using prosthetic leg or wheelchair.
Needing a solution, Christopher reached out to Veterans Affairs, who referred him to Pensacola Habitat for Humanity. Thanks to funding support from community partners like VFW Post 4833, Gulf Breeze Will Do and the Melba Bayers Meyer Charitable Trust, Christopher was able to receive an entirely new floor at no cost to him, as well as new HVAC and drywall repairs.
“Thanks to the generous support of our partners, we were able to help Christopher return his home to what it should be – a safe, welcome place for his family to grow and thrive in, instead of a source of danger and discomfort,” said Dakota Grilli, Pensacola Habitat for Humanity’s Community Development Manager. “Our Community Development Program exists for this purpose – to help preserve and maintain the homeownership of those who worked so hard already to achieve it, and we look forward to serving more veteran homeowners.”
Currently, the Community Development Program can accept applications for veteran homeowners in need of critical home repairs. Call 850-434-5456 or reach out to dgrilli@pensacolahabitat.org to learn more about how to qualify.
